Series of Lectures by Dr. Suresh Nampuri (Arnold Sommerfeld Center for Theoretical Physics Mathematical Physics; String Theory, Munich, Germany)

“Black Hole Counting in String Theory”

Date: Tuesday, 27th April, 2010 at 12:15h,

Place: Small Hall (I floor), Faculty of Science, Visegradska 33, Nis

Abstract: I will try to explore some aspects, difficulties and successes of entropy counting of extremal black holes in string theories with 16 supercharges and try to give an over view of the same.

“Classical General Relativity as a Field Theory Formulation”

Date: Wednesday, 28th April, 2010 at 08:15h,

Place: Small Hall (I floor), Faculty of Science, Visegradska 33, Nis

Abstract: I will talk about the development of GR as a field theory, drawing parallels and analogies with the other well known field theory of classical electrodynamics. Starting from the covariant formulation of Maxwell’s field equations, I introduce the idea of stress tensor, sources and then use these concepts along with the principle of equivalence to define the Einstein’s field equations and then look at specific solutions of these-namely Schwarzschild, Reissner-Nordstrom and Kerr-Newman.
