Paris Graduate School of Mathematical Sciences

The Fondation Sciences Mathématiques de Paris is launching a new education program at the Master level, located in Paris, to begin in Fall 2010:

Paris Graduate School of Mathematical Sciences

This program brings together all the masters in mathematical sciences from universities Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris-Diderot and Paris-Dauphine, founding members or partners of the Fondation Sciences Mathématiques de Paris. It offers a unique array of courses taught in French and English, based on the assembled competencies of all the Paris research laboratories in
mathematical sciences.

The Fondation Sciences Mathématiques de Paris offers master courses scholarships and personalized support to excellent students, having studied abroad and selected through a written application process, in order to join the Paris Graduate School of Mathematical Sciences.

The application is open from January 31 to March 4, 2010. Detailed information and the on-line application form can be found on the web site.

3 Research Grants for Young Scientis at CERN

The UNESCO office in Venice is offering 3 research grants at CERN for young scientists from

  • Albania,
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina and
  • former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

The aim of this programme is to encourage young scientists from South Eastern Europe to pursue scientific careers in the field of basic and engineering sciences. Applications should be sent no later than 15 February 2010.

PhD studentship: ITN Early Sage Researcher Position (Thessaloniki, Greece)

The Theoretical Physics group of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece announces

the opening of an Early Stage Researcher (ESR) position in Theoretical Particle Physics which will be financed by the European Union ITN program “Unification at the LHC era”. The duration of the appointment will be three years, starting in September 1, 2010 and the ESR is expected to defend a PhD thesis at the end of his/her employment. Press cliping: prof D. Stojkovic about LHC

Professor Dejan Stojkovic of New York State University (SUNY) at Buffalo told Swisster he and his research team were celebrating over the weekend.

Stojkovic is the co-creator of the Black Max computer simulator, which stimulates the production of black holes in the collider and calculates their properties.

Professor Stephen Hawking says the experiment is vital for humanity while Professor Dejan Stojkovic, an expert on black holes, says there’s no chance the collider will cause the planet to be sucked into oblivion.
