Professor Dejan Stojkovic of New York State University (SUNY) at Buffalo told Swisster he and his research team were celebrating over the weekend.

Stojkovic is the co-creator of the Black Max computer simulator, which stimulates the production of black holes in the collider and calculates their properties.

Professor Stephen Hawking says the experiment is vital for humanity while Professor Dejan Stojkovic, an expert on black holes, says there’s no chance the collider will cause the planet to be sucked into oblivion.

Department of Theoretical Physics and Laboratory of Computer Physics (University of Nis), in cooperation with: The Southeastern European Network in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics (SEENET-MTP), within the working group Project Strings and Cosmology (funded by ICTP, Trieste, Italy; Ministry of Science and Technological Development of Serbia and UNESCO) organize a series of lectures:

Introduction to cosmology, and numerical cosmology
(with “Cactus” code)

Lecturer is Dr Dumitru Vulcanov, dean of the physics West University of Timisoara, Romania.

Lectures will be held from 27 – 29 October, 2009, in the Room 100, at the Faculty of Science in Nis and the Laboratory for Computer Physics (Višegradska 33) at 12:00pm. Lectures will be held in English, with short explanations of the Serbian language. (more…)

Scientific exchange with the University of Munich project

The Scientific Exchange Project between the String Theory group of the Ludwig Maximilians University-LMU and the Max Planck Institute for Physics-MPI, Munich, and the Chair of Theoretical Physics, the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Nis, the University of Niš was initiated upon many years of cooperation between the above mentioned institutions.

The project is funded by the Bavarian Ministry for Science, Research and Art, the Ministry of Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia and UNESCO, in cooperation with the Southeastern European Network in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics SEENET-MTP & UNESCO SEENET-MTP Office in Niš.
