The Scientific Exchange Project between the String Theory group of the Ludwig Maximilians University-LMU and the Max Planck Institute for Physics-MPI, Munich, and the Chair of Theoretical Physics, the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Nis, the University of Niš was initiated upon many years of cooperation between the above mentioned institutions.
The project is funded by the Bavarian Ministry for Science, Research and Art, the Ministry of Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia and UNESCO, in cooperation with the Southeastern European Network in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics SEENET-MTP & UNESCO SEENET-MTP Office in Niš.
The Scientific exchange project was initiated in mid 2009 to last one year. The project is headed by Prof. dr Mihael Haack from Munich and Prof. dr Goran Djordjevic from Nis.
The following activities are envisaged by the project:
- Two lectures by guest speakers from Munich to the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Nis and holding a series of lectures or mini-courses in the field of String Theory and Cosmology over a period of seven days;
- One or two Serbian physics students are to spend 4 months at LMU in Munich in order to attend relevant courses in the physics study or involve in scientific research.
The activities accomplished:
- Dr Robert Helling, the Scientific Coordinator of the Elite Master Course in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics, the Department of Physics, the Ludwig Maximilians University, Munich, Germany held a series of lectures on String Theory and physics of small distances at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Nis from 5th to 9th October, in 2009.
- Vladan Pavlović, the 3rd year undergraduate at the Department of Physics, in Nis, began his five months stay at the Physics Department of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, in early October.
