Below please find the announcement of our first Arnold Sommerfeld Summer School. The program should be of interest to many of our Diploma/PhD students and Postdocs. Please feel free to forward the announcement to other colleagues who might be interested.
2007 Arnold Sommerfeld Summer School
The 2007 Arnold Sommerfeld Summer School will take place in the period from October, 1st to October, 12th, 2007 at the Ludwig-Maximilians University Munich. The aim of the school is to introduce graduate students and postdocs to a variety of topics in modern Theoretical Physics. As this is our inaugural Arnold Sommerfeld Summer School, which in the future will take place every year, true to the spirit of Arnold Sommerfeld we will cover a wide range of topics.
- Prof. C. Beenakker: Solid-state quantum computing
- Prof. R. Griffiths: Consistent history approach to quantum mechanics
- Prof. F. Haake: Chaos and quantum chaos
- Prof. U. Seifert: Nonequilibrium field theories
- Prof. B. Shraiman (to be confirmed)
Each of the lecturers will present 4 to 5 lectures starting at an introductory level. The lectures will take place at the Arnold Sommerfeld Center for Theoretical Physics in the heart of the city. The school is organized by Jan von Delft, Thomas Franosch, Erwin Frey, Stefan Kehrein and Florian Marquardt.
All interested graduate students and postdocs are invited to attend. A poster session will be organized for them to present their own work. There will be no conference fee, however, we also cannot provide assistance regarding accomodation. Please note that the first week of the school coincides with the Munich Oktoberfest, which makes it advisable to book accomodation as early as possible.
Additional and updated information can be found here.
Please register by September 15 by following a link on the above webpage if you are interested in attending.
Best wishes,
Stefan Kehrein
