Prof. Dr. Goran Djordjević elected as a member of the Executive Committee of the European Physical Society

At the annual, electoral, Council of the European Physical Society held on 30 – 31. of March 2012, at CERN, Geneva, Dr. Goran Djordjević, full professor and Chair Theoretical Physics, Faculty of Science and Mathematics, University of Niš, was elected as a member of the Executive Committee (EC) of the European Physical Society (EPS).

The European Physical Society with its headquarters at the University of Alsace, Mulhouse, France, is one of the largest and most organized academic associations in Europe, consisting of 41 member states with dozens of associated institutions, and about 3000 individual members.

Election of prof. Djordjević is a significant acknowledgement for the physical community in Serbia as well as in the entire region of Balkans, and particularly for the Southeastern European Network in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics (SEENET-MTP), with its head office in Niš, whose founder and executive director since its foundation in 2003 is Prof. Djordjević himself.

Prof. Djordjević was elected for a vacant place in the Executive Committee among representatives of Finland, Slovakia and Serbia. Executive Committee, composed of a president and 11 members, is the highest managing and governing body of the Society during the time between annual Council assemblies. Each mandate of the Executive Committee lasts for two years. This is the first time ever for a Serbian physicist to be elected to the highest administration of the European Physical Society, and it is a continuation of representation of physicsts from Balkan region in the EC EPS.

PhD Fellowship at SISSA

The International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) welcomes applications for 5 PhD fellowships in Theory of Elementary Particles.

The students are selected through a written and oral exam, which will take place on July 18-19, 2012 at SISSA, Trieste (Italy). Applications should reach SISSA by July 9, 2012. Candidates are entitled to contributions to their travel expenses. Application forms and additional information can be found on the web page or in PDF file.

Prof. Dr. Dejan Stojković received prize “Marko Jarić”

Prof. Dr. Dejan Stojković (Unversity at Buffalo, The State University of New York, SAD), received renowned prize “Marko Jarić” for Physics for 2011. The award is given to him for his work on Black holes dynamics in extradimensinal Cosmological models and at LHC).

On this occasion Prof. Stokovic will give a talk: “Black Holes in Universe and Laboratory” on Friday, March 23, 2012 at 19h. The talk will be held in at the University of Niš. More information are in Serbian.

CERES – CEI Research Fellowship Programme

Four post-doctoral fellowships are available in the context of the CEI Research Fellowship Programme – CERES, co-funded by the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development – Marie Curie Actions.

CERES fellowships have a duration of 12 months and are addressed to experienced researchers1 from CEI Member States.
